SQUARES and RECTANGLES - a simple recipe for a boy's pillow.

Handmade colorful pillows are an inexpensive way to change-up child's room. Following this step-by-step instruction for a small (40 cm) pillow you can create a great gift during one evening. This pattern includes instruction for one pillow, although the design can be used as a part of toys, blankets or just anything else.

You will need (for one pillow):

FRONT OF PILLOW

A - 2 pieces 42 x 8 cm
G - 2 pieces 6 x 18 cm

CUT FROM YELLOW FABRIC
Bpieces 18 x 8 cm
Dpieces 8 x 6 cm

CUT FROM WHITE FABRIC
Cpieces 18 x 8 cm
E - pieces 8 x 6 cm
Ipieces 14 x 6 cm
J - 1 piece 42 x 10 cm

CUT FROM NAVY BLUE FABRIC
Fpieces 6 x 6 cm
H - 1 piece 18 x 6 cm

BACK OF PILLOW

CUT FROM BLUE FABRIC
K1 piece 42 x 42 cm

Additionally - pillow stuffing

Don’t forget to backstitch* at the beginning and end of all your stitching!

All seam allowances are 1 cm. Seam allowances are included.

Cut out all pieces of fabric. Then sew these pieces together one by one (with right sides together) - follow the step-by-step instruction in the pictures below.

Start from the eyes. First sew to eachother pieces
in order D - F - D (as shown in the picture). To the newly created part sew both pieces B (look at the picture). You’ve just made the yellow eye.

Now in the same way you will make the second eye - white. First sew to eachother pieces
in order E – F – ETo the newly created part sew both pieces C. Now you have both eyes. Then sew these eyes together.

To this part sew both pieces G and then both pieces A (look at the picture below). Now you should make the mouth of your robot - sew to eachother pieces I – H – I.

To this part sew piece J. Now, last thing you have to do to create the front of your pillow is sew together the eyes-part and the mouth-part.

You’ve just made the front of your pillow. Now you’ve 2 pieces of your pillow - front piece and back piece (K). Place these pieces (with right sides together) and sew along the edges, but leave the 15 cm opening in the center of one side of the pillow (to put the pillow stuffing).

Now, you can clip the 4 corners of the pillow close to the seam, make sure you don't clip the stitches! Turn the pillow right side out and fill your pillow with the pillow stuffing. Now all you have to do is close up the gap - sew near to the edge. You can also use a hand stitch to close the opening.

Finished pillow: measures 40 x 40 cm.

*BACKSTITCHING: means securing the beginning and end of a machine stitched seam. Start by sewing forward three stitches. Then go back three stitches and now sew forward to the end of the seam. When you get to the end of the seam, go back three stitches and then go forward three stitches again.
